Im still worried about this leak, i havent had chance to see the second mech as yet, but I really dont want to do any major work on the car until that is sorted out..
My guess is there is no stopgap solution to stop the oil draining so quickly? They dont reccomend any kind of oil/seal tretment in these cars do they...

Sorry to trouble you, but did you get any cost estimate from your shop for this job? Im trying to work out what kind of expenses im dealing with here... Sounds like a nightmare because if I want to get the job done in orlando, I doubt its the kind of job they can complete on a saturday..
Anyway thanks for your help again tech

Hi tech, forgot to mention it in the other post but may as well keeping it going here,..

the mech confirmed that its the rear crankshaft seal thats leaking the oil... looks like its a job im going to have to do eventually if i dont do it now...

So its that plus the belts and the others that i mentioned in the other post...

Im guessing if its ok with you I can do all the 'minor' work at your place and look to do the crankshaft seal at the shop you work at..
What is your labour charge per hr? If so, how much do you think the job will be at your shop?

Thanks

I kinow you lot normally dont reccomend this, but is there any sort of seal reconditioner that I can put into my engine oil or tranny fluid for the rear main crankshaft seal? I wont do it unless im sure it wont cause further damage, but if there is a chance to repair the problem this simply il be willing to take a shot at it...

I paid 8800 for my car, and to spend 1000 dollars to fix a leaking seal, really sounds like a heartache... At least at this moment its holding up fine, and oddly it has stopped leaking for the past few days..but its possible that it could just be that I havent really taken the car out on a long drive..

Anyway let me know what you lot think,

Thanks

I wouldn't really mess with anything like that.
If the engine has any sludge build up inside the sealer will make it worse.
#1 cause of leaks on these cars starts from a clogged vent system.

So from where I am now I guess all I can do is wait to see how the leak is looking, and if it starts back and also how quickly the oil level is dropping...
I didnt really want to use any sealant unless i was sure it was safe, but from what your saying i shouldnt consider it... I always have a qt or 2 of oil in the trunk anyway incase of something but the level has been holding fine for weeks.

I guess what il do is focus on the belt job first and then worry about this leak..
Any idea on when would be good for you tech because im keeping watch on my timetable.. im thinking it will have to either be this weekend or the weekend after.. If not itl have to wait until after final exams which will mean around the 9th or 10th of may..

Thanks again

Ok Tech, thanks again...

Someone told me that if i was to go to Advance auto or any of these places they have a free tool lending service? Do you know anything about this? If thats the case I think im more than able to change the upper torque arm bushing and spark plugs for myself.. Save us a little extra work when we get to your place..
Oddly I was having a look around the engine and im missing a nut on one of the screws on the back of the engine, just under the preheat hose.. Think this could have fell off as a result of the extra vibrations caused by the worn bushing?

Il try to do the work that I can using the loaner tools... I guess as soon as I hear from you about when is a good weekend, we can organise to do the work then. If the work has to wait until after my final exams, I can just push back my plane ticket home for another few days.. I didnt book yet because im waiting to hear about the car etc.. The T-belt job is NOT something i want to leave for another 3 months while im out of the country...

How often do they normally reccomend to start up the eingine while the car is parked for summer.. Last thing i need is to get back to tampa and relise my battery is completely dead.. the people im leaving the car with they can start it up for me, just need to let them know how often

Hi tech, sorry to be a pest, but any update on the situation? Im not rushing you or anything, but I'm trying to get an idea of when to book the ticket home... Im guessing if i book somewhere around the 14th of May, that would mean that the weekend before that, ie. 10th or 11th of May would be the best time for me. Im even free this weekend but the only weekend I cant do is the weekend of the 3rd and 4th may..

As I said its no rush, just let me know when you get a chance to
Thanks

We can try to plan for the 10th or 11th.
Been really wacky here.
Wife just got home last Sun. spent most of Mon and tues in the hospital with daughter getting tests done.
This weekend busy next weekend busy as well.
But the 10th and 11th should be ok.

Pm me a list again of what I am going to do.
Remember this will be at my house.
