1999 s80 ROUGH IDLE at start up
My 1999 S80 T6 has a rough idle for 30 -60 seconds on cold start up.This problem started after we had the Throttle body; cleaned, software upgraded and the ultimately replaced the whole module (under the warranty) . We took it to the dealer (4times) here in San Antonio and they say its fixed, we get home and its not, problem continues. It is at the dealer in Georgetown today (100 miles away) and we await the verdict. Anyone have any suggestions???

RE: 1999 s80 ROUGH IDLE at start up
I live up here in Austin TX and I've seen the same thing with my 2000 Volvo S80. It wasn't really rough, but the idle was a little off when you would first fire up the car. It only seems to happen under certain weather conditions, and I had the dealership up here in Austin take a look and my car checked out "A" OK!
My car had the initial "rougher" idle for a couple weeks and then it vanished into mid air. It's always something I keep an eye out for but it certainly isn't anything that I would be concerned about.
I wouldn't worry too much about it, cars have a rough start up from time to time. I was told by the mechanic at the dealership that the computers in these cars can take a while to "calibrate" (This may not be the right term) so if your idle smooths off after startup and it's not rough during accelaration I wouldn't worry about it!

Well it seems that when your gut tells you that the mechanic doesn't know what he's talking about, go with it.
The dealer in Georgetown did a check, (like the one in San Antonio should have done, according to Georgetown this was a no brainer) and found that the throttle body software upgrade had been updated but the Engine Control Module had not. $30.00 and some software download and the problemwas fixed! In addition the intermittent A/Cproblem I had that was plaguing me was that the conpressor would run for a while. heat up then stop. The dealer here said, "It just needs freon, the compressor is O.K." In reality the defective compressor got to a certain temperature then shuts off, then cools down, and when it when it is cooler, turns on again. I love my S80-T6. Been Volvos since 1970. Started with a 122S I miss it. Thanks for the Forum it helped me a lot.
