I am looking at a project 99 s80, I know this isn't the best car, but I am not affraid of the issues.

but any ideas what would cause the s80 to have no power and ping thru the exhaust?

 

Ignition timing advanced too far.

 

I can get this car for $1500, 125k miles, over all the car is in very good shape. I have had several Volvo's 850's and now a V70 T5 and Saabs. I don't mind a car with some issues as long as it can be diagnost and repaired myself, I don't take anything to the dealer!!! so I would need to be able to get some decient diagnostic SW or code reader etc.. I preffer not to get a car that needs a head rebuilt although i have done many in the past. and for $500-600 in parts it could be worth it. T-belt,a few valves and gaskets etc...
So this car is ata small car dealerjust North of town, the guy has no clue what he has nore does he care to figure it out! but for the price i am willing to take some risk
can this car jump timming and still run and mechanically be ok? (no bent valves) the car starts and runs, you don't hear any real issues except noise thru the exhaust pipes. I honestly don't know if any lights are on or not... I plan on taking a look at the car Sat afternoon so is thier anything I should look for. my first guess is maybe coil packs bad.

 

Could also be a bad MAF.
