Default Alarm service required ??

Alarm service required came up in the message center. Dealer stated that the passenger door latch assembly need to be replaced. ( it did not lock all the time )the dealer wanted $525.00 to do the job. I did it in 1 hour and the parts came to $160.00.
But alarm service required is still displayed.
Tested alarm system.
Set alarm; doors locked, lights did not flash, dash indicator flashed red, AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES OPENED DOOR FROM IN SIDE THE CAR LIGHTS FLASHED BUT NO HORN / SIREN
SET OF ALARM VIA PANIC BUTTON ON KEY FOB LIGHTS FLASHED, HORN SOUNDED, BUT NO SIREN?

IS THERE A RELAY FOR THE SIREN AND IF SO WHERE IS IT.

CHECKED FUSES UNDER HOOD AND IN DASH ALL GOOD.

ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Pull fuse 38. That's the one to the alarm siren. Does your sunroof operate? Any problems with the overhead lights? All these are tied in with the siren. Other posts have this detailed.

As these vehicles get older, the small battery in the siren located inside the RH fender leaks acid. It shorts out the alarm circuit board inside and often causes the sun roof to stop working because both are controlled by the same module in the rear view mirror.
Siren can be purchased for about $180. See my other post.
Can not guarantee this is your problem but a lot of other people on this forum have had the same problem including me.

OK, listen, you set the alarm by locking it with the remote and no lights flashed correct?

Horn has nothing to do with this or panic button.

If no lights flashed, that means a door is not closed or being seen closed, including the hood, whcih I have seen a lot. You had some lock work done??? Its very simple to hook up the computer ar Volvo and tell this. Figure this out before anything else.

bump for questions,

getting the same message on my 01 s80. it comes on for some seconds when i start the car, then goes off. no msgs saved on console. doors lock with fob and lights flash. panic button works with horn and flashing lights. all int lights work as well as sunroof. after reading related posts, im left with these questions:

1.where do i begin to look for problem? im afraid to break the rivots in wheel well because i dont know how to put it back on(limited tool supply)...
2.if its the siren, wouldnt i have other problems(lights, sunroof, etc)?

fyi: not sure, but looks like the previous owner had aftermarket remote start added. theres some weird harness running along raditor to pass side, a yellow wire grounded to chassis near washer tank, and a red wire to starter(i think its a starter, its mid way down on front of motor?)
thanks in advance.

Funny, because i have some sort of weird thing like you. When i lock my doors, the front driver side door doesn't lock. When i unlock the doors they all unlock besides the rear driver side door. And some times when i try to lock/unlock to much in a short period of time, the alarm goes off, light flash but no siren.

Default alarm system service required

I've read the above posts and have a msg stating alarm system service required. when I lock the doors with the fob, the lights flash but no horn sound. sunroof works fine and all int lights work, so I'm wondering if it really needs to go to the dealer (expensive) and boyfriend is a mechanic.
Any ideas? Suggestions?
