Default Blower motor vs resistor

2000 S80 T-6 ~ 126K miles. Has climate control.

The heater blower has stopped working, and I'm trying to figure out if it's the motor or the resistor. I checked the fuse (and yes I checked it for continuity), and it's fine.

When I turn the car to the on ignition position, without starting the engine, I can hear a whirring sound like a small motor turning for just a few seconds, and then it stops.

I assume (and possibly a wrong assumption) that it is either the motor or the resistor. My instinct tells me it's the resistor, because the fuse didn't pop.

Any thoughts?

BTW, thanks for the forum, I am a new, and will be a frequent contributor.

Generally what happens is the motor starts going bad and draws to much amperage. It turn that usually takes out the resistor. So one may be what it not making it work right this second. But by the time it does what it is doing now usually both are bad.
