Default Blown front drivers side speaker - help needed

Hi all, the strangest thing happened today... When I went into my car this morning my audio was fine, when i went back to it this evening, my front lhs (driver) speaker is making that horrible "farting" noise that speakers make when they are busted.. I am getting the noise when even the slightest bit of bass passes through..

Now, what I cant get is, I didnt pump the volume at all today, it was always at a reasonable listening volume so what could possibly cause my speaker to give out like that?

Also, what brand speakers and what model number did volvo use on this car? I would really like to replace it with what it came with to keep my sound continuous.. What kind of price am I dealing with, and how hard will it be to strip down the door and change the speaker?

The tweeter seems fine, just the lower driver seems to be the problem..

Thanks,
Nicolas

Well, speakers over time exposed to the sun can break down. Not the speaker it self, but the membrane around the cone. One never knows when they go out. Not sure myself, what Volvo put in there but you can go to any place that sells car audio and as long as you have the dimension of the speaker, just replace them or should I say upgrade what you have. Though the alternative is to get the direct replacement of what you currently have in there by pulling the speaker out and looking on either ebay or posting on the want ads here and see if a member has a spare one. On my 850, I just pull the wire grill out of the door to expose the spealer and once you take off a few screws ,the speaker pops out! Super easy.... Personally I want to replace my factory ones with Boston Acoustics speakers for sound clarity... Good Luck!

Well I think its generally agreed that the stock speakers on this car are rather good quality... so I at least want to price and conider this option before thinking of upgrading both...
If I decide to go aftermarket I will need to figure out what fits and what goes well with the other speakers in the car..

i believe the stock speaker is a 6.5" or a 5.5" round speaker, to get the door off you depress the center of all the circular things around the door, you pop off the trim around the door handle, and you pull off the cover where the grip is and unscrew the screw and the door should just come right off. The screw in the door is a Torx 25. to get the speaker itself out is going to take some tools. The speaker is riveted into place, so to get the speaker out you would have to drill out all of the rivets and pull the speaker out. unfortunately it is not as simple as the 850 as you have to take the door off and drill out rivets.

here is a site with OEM speakers for sale:

http://www.automotix.net/partshotlin...-requests.html

hope that helps you out

My driver side woofer cuts in and out intermittently. The tweeter works fine. So I took panel off door but I don't think it's the speaker. There's something flakey about the head units in these cars.

Well my speaker itself works fine, no cutting in and out in that sense.. its just the bass is horribly distorted and I have blown a few speakers in my time to know when a speaker sounds busted...
I am using VADIS and I think I got the part number 8672914 . Any of you care to chime in on if this is right or wrong?

If I do have to go aftermarket I will have to look into finding midbass speakers because I don't want to be killed with treble if I put in 3 way's.

wow.. well I managed to find the OEM speaker new on special order from www.myswedishparts.com but at the horrific price of.. $120! Then still have the newve to charge me $10 for shipping... so $130!

For that price I could buy a pair of Infinity Kappa Components! and probably have enough left over for an oil change..

Hoping that the scrap yards come through for me soon... Also looks like I have to make a 1600 mile road trip this coming week with rear speakers only...

Man, just place a want ad in the classifieds. I am sure there is someone willing to almost give one away from when they upgraded. Don't pay much for a stock speaker. Post a want ad.

if i had the stock speaker i would give it to you, but unfortunately i blew all but 2 speakers in the car. what can i say i like my music loud. so i upgraded. and upgrade in speakers installed on the car would probably run you about 600-800 dollars depending on if you wanted them amped or not. or you could just buy the speakers and install them yourself like i did, and save a couple hundred bucks. car sounds great now. but i can see where you are coming from with the stock replacment.

speaker ordered, apparently its out in CA, so it'll be here in about 5 days.. $25 + $15 shipping, I would take that considering the alternative in pricing.. Now just to decide if I want to do the install myself or pay someone to..

Good news at least is that I completely accidentally due to random coincidence found another volvo and another european car specialist in tampa.. one guy saw me parked and gave me his card, other place heard me talking about the s80 on the phone haha

I am very interested in this as well because my center speaker and the tweeter on the driver side are going out. I also think that my back speakers do not work in Surround Sound Mode. When I do the surround sound it only seems like it is in the front, but when I check the balance I hear things in the back, but it is really muffled, and it should not be like that. I even have copy of the THX sounds mainly to test my speakers at home, but when I play it in the car it does not even work properly. Is it normal for this to happen in Surround sound mode? The work in the other modes...

Back to the center speaker... does anyone know how to replace the center speaker without taking the entire dash apart?

In regards to the brand of speaker... I know that the new S80s have Dynaudio Speakers in them but does anyone know if this is true for the 1999 model?

Thanks!

well www.uneedapart.com came through for me when I was looking for the replacement speaker. Re: Install my car doesnt have the cent channel (HU-611) but I always wanted to pop one in.. just no way to power it really and get it to play both left and right channels on stereo.

Default V90 Bowers&Wilkins door speaker random on off

These are my thoughts exactly.

My cars front right side doors upper (mid/high) speaker stopped working suddenly, while same doors lower bass speaker works fine.
Balance was in the middle and I tested all other corners to be fine.
Next morning everything worked again. I thought it was just some temporary glitch, but after work the speaker was again silent.
It has always been either on or off whole time, even I have cranked volume and settings. Even knockin the door and speaker.

maybe tomorrow morning it is again ok one day.
In my opinion, it cant be wiring problem. It must be in the software, or processor acting heyware.
