Default A/C stops working

My 99 S80's a/c will stop working all of sudden when sitting in traffic for a while, usually 15 minutes or longer. After the car sits a while it will start working again, cold as ever. Could this be a relay getting stuck? When it does stop working I don't here the compressor kick on or off.

Mine was doing the same thing Get your ac clutch checked to see if it needs shimming Had mine shimmed week a go and no problems since. I used the plastic bread tags on mine will save you 150.00 to 200.00

How can you tell if the A/C clutch needs shimming?

Mine would cool a while then start blowing hot air Could turn the ac off few minutes and it would blow cold again. Then repeat the cycle. An independent mech took a broom stick and pushed the clutch in while blowing hot air and it started working he knew it had to be shimmed. If you try this be very careful as it is very dangerous to do I am talking about the broom stick part. If this is your problem go back a few pages and you will see how to shim with plastic bread tags. Did mine about a week and a half ago works fine. Will save you a couple hundred bucks over pulling the clutch off. Takes about 15 minutes is all 3 plastic clips and a tube of super glue

Thanks diehard, now I hope I can get it to do it. You know how these intermittent problems are!

You are a genius...just did the fix using the bread ties and the ac works fine. It was very easy after I figured out how to access the clutch. Thanks.

get 3 of the plastic bread clips on bread only found them on hamburger buns here raise car easier to do from under car. put super glue on one clip at the time. Push ac clutch in with long screw driver insert one at the time takes 3 of them. let car sit for couple hours if possible so glue drys good My first job lasted 1 1/2 yrs just redid 2 weeks ago and working fine again

Ok, but should I put this where the a/c cluch are located? Or should I put them in the outside part where the first screw is located?
