Default Cam has Timing Piece?

Hi,

I recently had my timing belt changed and the engine destroyed when it jumped time.

The mechanic is telling me that their is a timing piece on the cam that snapped off, and that is why it happened.

They changed the belt, idler, tensioner, and water pump. They are saying this piece snapped off the cam which caused the car to jump time. I am trying to discover what this timing piece on the cam is.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Best,

Sherry

The timing piece on the cams would be the actual cam gears themselves. Sounds like they didn't set the tensioner right and it jumped teeth.

So, in other words there isn't a piece that hangs off of the cam? It's possibly, that the cam teeth broke off? Thanks for clarifying.

Best,

Sherry

Nope. Nothing hangs off the cam gears.

They are BSing you. There is no way to tell what happened but they are trying to dodge responsibility.

You are right. There is no way, this should of taken 3 weeks (tomorrow) to repair. They are trying to figure out how to dodge paying for it.
