Exclamation Can I swap a 2.9L Engine from a 1999 S80 into a 2000 S80?

Hello, I'm new to the forum and I haven't found the answer to my question after searching the web for hours and I really need help before I buy a new 'used' engine.

I just bought a 2000 S80 2.9L with a bad engine (hole in the block) and I just found a good 1999 2.9L for sale to put in it which I'm supposed to pick up this weekend. My 6th & 7th vin is 94 and the '99 6th & 7th vin is 97. Different engine #'s, but can anyone tell me if there's really any difference and if I'm going to have any problems swapping engines? Do they line up the same? Everything I've read from people selling 2000 2.9 engines say the 2000 w/the 94 in the vin will only work on the same-not sure if that's only external stuff or what. They look pretty much the same from the top to me and they are both 2.9 non-turbo engines with only one year difference and the same body style. I can't figure out why there would be any problem, but I'm new to Volvo's and want to make sure!

Please help me if you know as I'm set up to buy this engine tomorrow!

Thanks,
Anne

i dont see why not ..as long as they are same both 2.9 non-turbo. But also you could ask the dealer too. or any volvo mechanic shop in US.
