Default Check Engine Light

I got my first car which is a 2007 s80 V8 AWD Volvo with 79,000 miles on it less than a year ago in July of 2017. The car ran smoothly at first. I’ve also done some fair traveling on it I would say, but half way through the time owning it. The check engine light came on so I went to a Volvo dealership and was told to change the spark plugs to be safe since my 2, 3, 4, and 8 cyclinders were misfiring. We changed all of them to be safe and also changed the engine filter. While we changed the spark plugs some had oil on them. After that It ran smoothly for a good two months until the check engine light came on again and said the same thing. As well when I drive it, it jolts accelerating and de-accelerating and accelerating again. I’m guessing the wires for the spark plugs are faulty or I need to change my oil gasket valve. I sincerely would appreciate a second opinion on this with someone who has experience or has owned the same model year as I to hopefully clarify some possible resolution so that I am not furthing this problem in more unnessecary costs than are needed.

On a V8 of that age, they should have changed the spark plugs, valve cover gaskets and coil packs. It is not an easy job but necessary.

Oil on the spark plugs is a sign of the valve cover gaskets leaking.

i appreciate your help, so I have got all that done. Just a few days ago I got the oil gasket valves to change out of suggestion from the Volvo dealership but the cars check engine came on a day after. Saying cylinders 2,3, and 8 are misfiring. I’m personally so frustrated at this point, my best and final guess is the wires for those spark plugs are faulty. What would you suggest to do? I’m on my last leg here.

I just finished the same job. How did you get the ground wires off the studs on the valve covers?

I found that to be the hardest part of the job. I had to grind down an old 10mm wrench so that it would be thin enough to hold the stud while I loosened the top nut.
