Check engine light and codes help
I have a 2002 Volvo S80 and my check engine light is on along with the abs and brake failure. Other symptoms include cruise control and ABS do not work, and trip odometer is dashes. Occasionally on cold days below 35F the warning lights go out for a while. Pretty much until the car warms up. Codes pulled are P0504, P0571, and P0600. From what I have read it sounds like the BCM needs replacing. Is there a way to test this part or others before replacing them? Any other suggestions? Can I use a used part or does it need to be new and I got the impression it needs to be programmed by the dealer, would this be the case for a used one as well?
I have been living with this for a while now, and it is a bit frustrating, but my biggest issue with this is that because the check engine light is on, it is an automatic smog check failure which I think is complete BS being that the code is for the ABS system and not smog related.

Thanks for the information. I have been doing some google searches and have not turned up any others for repair. If anyone has some links of where else I could look it would be greatly appreciated.
I am also trying to find the exact location of the BCM.

Check this out - I was very happy with them

tip: use a mirror to get the numbers off your current one so you can just leave it on until the new/reman one arrives.
