Clunking noise on 1999 S80
Hi guys,
Havent been on here for a while but I thought I would pass on some info.
I had noticed that there was a pronounced clunking coming from the front of my car.I had feared that the right side engine motor mount must have failed since it seemed to be coming from that side. I did find some mounts on Amazon but did not buy yet.
From having had my car up in the air a while back ,I had checked the rear stabilizer bar linkages and even though they were not broke, both sides had like a clicking noise when you pushed up and down on them. I knew I would have to replace them soon.
Back to the start of the story. I raised the car up in the air again so I could check the motor mount and see how bad it was. What I found was the stabilizer linkage that goes from the bar to the strut, the bottom ball part had come out of the linkage and was dangling. Figured that must have been my problem but to make sure I checked the motor mounts and they checked fine. I knew the local NAPA store had the linkages so I went ahead and got all four, two each for the front and back.
The car now drives like a different machine with hardly any noise coming when I hit a bump or crack on the road. Before this, every time I hit even a small bump on the road there was clicking or clunking noise.
I know there is a lot of talk about clunking noise on this cars on here and so I thought I would post so if you have issues with noise this might be another item to check.
