Codes P0014 & 90134
I recently picked up a 1999 S80 T6 and have been addressing some of its issues. This site has been a good resource for info and I thought I might be able to add to it.
When I bought my S80 it had the CEL on so I brought it to auto zone for a scan and found it was throwing codes P0134 P0014. I know the OBDII codes are pretty generic, but I don’t have access to a Volvo scanner so I researched the codes and concluded that it was the front bank, up stream O2 sensor needed replacing. The P0014 was more vague in description but was related to the timing being over-advanced, possibly the camshaft position sensor, it was pretty hard to tell.
Anyway I asked if they would clear the codes and legally they can’t (though they usually do it for me anyway.) On my way back I filled the tank with premium (first time putting gas in since buying) and after about 50-100 miles of driving over the next couple days the CEL went off. I am concluding that the previous owner was running 87 octane which was causing issues with the timing and possibly causing the air/fuel mix to be off and tripping the O2 sensor. It’s been over a week and still no CEL. So if you run across this thread and have these codes pop up, try switching to premium (like you’re supposed to be using) and it might save you a lot of money and a headache. I may be wrong, but so far things seem to be fine. I’ll up date this thread if the codes come back, but until then I think it’s safe to say the premium solved my problems.
