Computer & Smog Check
California has sent me the dreaded smog check letter. My car has a check engine light and I've metered it and it says
P0434 main catalyst below threshold
P0422 main catalyst below threshold
P1618
When at idle, the low oil pressure light also comes on.
So my first question is, if the exhaust is clean, does it matter if there are the above warnings?
My car has 200K miles and runs fine. I don't want to do a bunch of repairs unless there is really a smog issue.
Also, is there any way I can completely disable the computer alerts so they won't come back on and then re-enable them after the smog? Any other suggestions?
