Default Computer Warning Light

I have a 2000 volvo s80 and when I bought the car this light was on because even the dealer could not figure it out. So here is the problem.

the computer on the left side of the instrument panel reads 1 new message. then you read the message and it sais possiton light. and the caution light is on as well. so I am trying to get the car inspection done and I cant get the warning light off. does anyone know how to fix the problem or even just to turn the warning off. I am really supprised the Volvo dealer was stumped on this one. I have talked to them about maybe updating the software but they have assured me that would not help.

So any advise would help.

thanks.

How many light bulbs light up per taillight as parking lights?

Yep, check your bubls on the taillights to see which one is out. What I did is replaced all the bulbs while I was at it since I had the panel off anyway. Total cost was like $15 for the bubls. As for the dealer not being able to figure that one out, that's a mystery to me. That's a no brainer for anyone that's ever worked with a Volvo?!?!?

Just buy bulbs at Autozone, etc. While you're at it pick up a packet of bulb grease ($1.29). They usually keep it around the checkouts. I was blowing bulbs like bubble gum and one of the guys at Autozone suggested it. Think I have only had to replace one bulb in the two years since.
