Default could use advice on engine

I finished fixing the head on my 2000 s80,it had a burnt valve.
Now im ready to put everything back together. When i removed the head i lined both
timing marks to the notches in the top cover. After i took it off cylinders three and four
are at top dead center. Is that right,i expected number one to be up.If both of the marks were up i cant see how it could be any different.

For the life of me i cant see that mark on the crank at all.
I figured that if the cam marks were in the right position
the crank would have to be there too.Ive looked at the service manual
and it doesnt say that the number one cylinder should be at tdc.
So i really dont know if im ok or im lost here.

You might have the crank 180 degrees off.

You can try putting it together like that BUT make sure you turn it over by hand first to make sure it spins over all the way. After I do a timing belt or anything like that I crank the motor over 2 times by hand before starting it.

Looking back i may of moved the crankshaft when i was trying
to get the timing belt out.I think i should of taken off the big pulley
first.I still cant see any mark on the crank gear, the manual shows
it to be on the low point of the gears.

Either you will have one mark in the bottom of the groove where the belt sits or you will have 2 marks on the highest point on each tooth before and after where it should be.

Also if you have the serp. belt pulley off there is a mark on the outside if the timing gear as well.
