Default Electrical problems, the good then the bad

Idiot message: voltage low. So, we took it to the dealer. He said the battery was bad so he replaced it. The battery was under warranty so we didn't pay for that. That was the good.

Now the bad.

No more than a 1/4 mile from the dealer the CD player goes wonky, then quits. Then the tach shuts down, all idiot lights go on and get two messages. One tells me the voltage is too high and to stop safely. The other message says the electrical power system needs servicing.

Does this mean the alternator brushes(bushes? I don't know) are going or the voltage regulator?

Own a multimeter?

With the car running, test the voltage hitting the battery. Let us know.

Well that just sucked. Car wouldn't run. I needed it. Took it to the dealer, again. New Volvo alternator. Had no choice, no time to get a rebuilt.

Got hosed, big time.

$1013 Cdn installed. OMG!!!
