I had the software upgrade done through the dealership. I didn't really fix the surging problem. My volvo surges at idle and most of the time it happens when you just put it in "park" or when the AC is on.

So, I thought maybe the throttle body needs cleaning (learning all this from this site). So I just cleaned it. Now it still surges. When engine cold, first turn on, no surges. But when after a drive, I put it in "park" then it surges at lot then engine stop.

1) During the process of taking off the throttle body for cleaning, I hit the ++ power on the starter. Thishappened with the electrical connector of the ETM already disconnected. I was hoping since it was disconnected, nothing really happen to it. Could this cause a problem? If I short it out, then I don't think it's driveable. Or at least engine error msgs would come on. But no MSGs.

2) Or by disconnecting it for cleaning, I might had reset the software upgrade and need to have it upgrade again?

3) Is the voluntary extended warranty covers only software upgrade to the ETM?

What should I do now?

FYI, I'm about to do a major tune up on it to see if it helps.

 

Do you have a check engine light with codes refering to the throttle body?

 

Tech: No check engine light after the software upgrade and up to this point. As far as the engine light is concerned, before the software upgrade, the check engine light came on twice, but did go away before my software upgrade appointment. I told them about it, but looking at the work order again, there's no reference to any codes.

I'll do the tune up first, then report back.

 

If codes come back for the throttle body then they should replace it for FREE.
