Fix Transmission (code P0756) or Junk the Car
Need advice whether to fix transmission or give up and junk the car:
While stomping on the gas to pass a logging truck, my 2000 S80 T6 (138K miles) automatic transmission jerked when changing gears and the check engine light (CEL) illuminated with a Transmission Service Urgent messgage. Next passing attempt the transmission went into limp-home mode (3d gear only). Shutting off the car and restarting it restored the transmission shifting but it shifted harshly. I got home and replaced the transmission fluid (DEXRON VI) and filter and the transmission shifts great. I got the transmission service message to clear but still have the CEL with code P0756. Looking at VADIS, the steps to replace the S2 solenoid are a pain without the Volvo fixture to hold the engine in place while you drop the transmission.
Any advice on replacing the S2 solenoid without the Volvo engine fixture? [I have access to a lift.] Or, should I just take the car to the local transmission shop and get an estimate.
I've loved my S80 Volvo the last eight years (second owner), but my now my wife doesn't trust the car for long trips. Also the clear coat is unsightly / peeling , plus three other issues need fixing (SRS message, buzzing door lock, electric seat adjustment broke). It maybe time to give this car up...
