Default Going to look at a 99 S80

Hello everyone.. My name is Kirk, I might be a new owner of a 1999 S80 with around 150k miles on it.. I am soon going to be a proud father and have to trade in my pride and joy. "1991 Eagle Talon TSi that i've spent 3 years building".. My question is, What should I look for on this car to make sure its going to last? Whats the compression on a good motor on one of these?? Oh Its the 2.9 non turbo..
What kinds of things should I look for since I've never even seen an 5cyc before? It looks in great shape besides the fuel door falls out, and theres some wear on the arm rests. besides that the car is in great shape. the engine bay is pretty clean too which worries me if he's trying to hide somthing.. Thanks for all the info..

for one thing its not a 5 cylinder. its a straight 6. and to be honest, there are a list of things to check on. see if the timing belt maintenance has been done. make sure the transmission has been flushed or the fluid/filter service been done a few times with that many miles... also look for oil leaks, there are a few of them that can be bears to deal with. tech will probably give you some more advice than i can. i bought a 2000 t6 s80 a few months ago and was warned to stay away from it, but i have not seen many of the major failures that this and other forums talk about with my car. so there is still a lot to be weary of, but ill let some others that have seen those problems first hand fill you in.

ps.. i do suggest, since your coming from driving a talon tsi, id suggest trying to locate a t6... itll fill the void better for you..lol..

How much the seller is asking for this car? 150K miles sounds like a lot for 6 cyl engine. I am not trying to discourage you but depending on your budget, there might be better options out there.

Check to see if the ETM recall has been done yet. If not, you need to do it (at a dealership - they should do it for free) before the car is 10 years old. Also, check the front of the engine to make sure the oil separator is not leaking - if it is, you have to remove the intake manifold to fix it: big bux at the dealer or a lot of work for you if you DIY. Strut mounts and suspension bushings go out frequently on these cars - check to see if they have been replaced.

dealer needs to see evidence of failure before they replace it.

true, my last OEM strut mount/spring seats lasted 2 years on Bilstein HD struts. I bought IPD HD mounts this time.

I also own a 99 S80 which i brought in May of this year.I have only encountered the ABS module prob but thanks to Tech & I think the name of the company was BBS remanufacturers I have been satisfied with my S80. I do have to invest in some front struts I priced a package at Bilstein for $626.60 front & back I'mstill looking to see if thats the route to take but the car had 119thou but boy does it run great just had the oil changed no leaks still smooth sailing drove from NYC to Honesdale PA. great ride excellerates great A/c great & I took out a 2 year warranty when i brought it just to stay on the safe side. I had read alot of people's negative about the 99 S80and started to feel like i brought a lemon but the car has so far taken that fear away great car I too have a sports car a 1983 mazda rx7 2 to be exact but as for comfort & ride quality I like the S80, love my RX7 cant compare the excelleration but the S 80 is def a great car.
