I am living in Fargo and last week lost my only key for my 2002 S80. All Volvo's manufactured after 2000 have a security feature that requires new keys be activated by a dealer at a dealership.

I have spoken with a locksmith in Fargo who said that he had researched purchasing the rights to activate Volvo keys but it was too expensive. My only option it seems right now is to have my car towed to the closest Volvo dealership which is Minneapolis, 234 mile away.

Does anyone have any helpful tips? I do have a key-less entry so i can get into the car, maybe how to get it started? Any other suggestions i have not thought of ?

 

You're not going to be able to start the car without a valid key transponder, simple as that.

 

See if there are any garages in your area which specialize in Volvo's. They may have the special equipment needed to program the computer to accept a new key.
