Looking to Buy a 2000 Volvo S80 TT
How cheap is cheap? If you are one to wrench on your own cars, then its a car worth considering. If not, I'd stay away as the maintenance costs will be pretty nasty if you are having someone else do the work.
Depending on how long you plan keeping it for, budget on possibly needing to replace the following if the PO has not, some of these apply to all cars of this age/mileage of course:
ETM (The recall was a software fix, the hardware issue still applies and its only a matter of time before it fails) $600 (for aftermarket improved model)+labor
4 O2 sensors (close to $500 + fitting)
2x Cats
Transmission rebuild ($1800+). Its not so much that the tranny is bad, moreso that its not designed to handle the torque that that T6 puts out throughout its rev range. Im not aware of any hadware changes that were made after 2000.
Suspension components: control arms, bushings
PCV system (only <$200 in parts, but 4hrs of labor).
Ticking lifters: The orings get hard and cause a bad seal, loosing oil pressure $20 in parts but 2-3hrs of labor. This issue can escalate to a dangerous loss of oil pressure however and that will cost $$$$
Turbo oil return pipe leaks, cheap to fix.
As with any turbo car, maintenance history is imporant if you can get it, check for signs of sludge or general neglect.
Check the transmission fluid level and condition, the dipstick is by the brake fluid resovoir.
When the car is warm, pull the oil dipstick and see if there is smoke coming from there, if there is the PCV will likely need service. Otherwise the pressure might build up to a point where it blows out cam and crank seals.
Dont get me wrong, they are a nice car and the T6 motor is really nice. Just be sure you know what you are getting into

Post 2001, a different transmission was used, so the issue is diminished.
I am not sure off the top of my head who makes the 2002+ transmissions, but they are not the same GM low torque transmissions in the pre 2002.

Probably about $500. Its been hit on the front. From what I can see its clean but will need 2 fenders and the front bumper cover.
Jim
I see if I can get some pic's.
Thanks for the Feedback.

steering rack leak, ive seen it posted many times on other site and have had mine rebuilt as well, to add to the listed issues above
i did not have any of the above issueson my 99 though, with 210.000 KM on it now except 2 of 4 oxygen sensors failed (those were a pain to replace)

Looks like I will be picking up this car next week. I had to boost it to start it. did it off the battery. I think that is a no-no. At least it is on my XC70.
Anyway I noticed the sunroof does not open...no power, the dome lights don't go on and the garage door opener buttons do not light up? is there a common fuse for all these items? Or is it a programming issue?
