I would not put any other addictive into the engine. Just fix it right the first time then u r problem free. but of course after that u need to change oil regularly.
I've actually already done those things, thanks though.

Is the oil light constantly on?

did you check rod bearing clearance with the pan off? another way to check it is pulling out spark plugs and push on the pistons

with the light on you won't get much on it, may find some guy willing to fix it

It usually comes on a few minutes after driving it. Sometimes if you shut it off and back on the light will stay off for a few more minutes.

I didn't check the bearing clearance, I wish I had known to do that while I had the pan off.

I went through the same thing with my wife's S60. By the time the oil light came on it had spun the #5 rod bearing.Trying to repair a problem like this with engine flush is usually a waste of time and causes more damage running all that junk through the oil pump and bearings. I bought a low mileage engine from a salvage yard for $1,000.00 and changed it out.
The engine came out the top but, it was tight.

That's kind of what I was afraid of. Good to know that it is actually possible to get it out the top though.

If you drop the pan look at all of the connecting rods for signs of excessive heat. The #5 rod cap was almost black. I also had to make a lifting eye for the passenger side of the motor so it would come straight up. The factory eyes let the engine roll too much. A broken seal on the oil pickup caused all of the damage.

Ok will do, I think I may have taken some pictures while I had the pan off before, I might try to find those.

Thanks everyone for all the information. I'm going to try to sell it as-is, if nobody wants to buy it until the engine is fixed I may try some flushes before replacing the it. I'm going to go ahead and unsubscribe from this thread, but if anyone finds it in the future please send me a message if I can offer any helpful info.

Depending on the amount of sludge in the oil pan, if it got into the rod bearings, they are shot.

Feel for play in the pistons (through spark plug holes).

Thats more likely to cause sludging.
10W 40 would be the highest i'd ever risk personally.

As for the diesel oil flushes, I shall not comment but am cringing at the thought.
Lets see what others say ??
Might as well put some diesel in the fuel tank as well, heck while your at it douse it in diesel on the 4th of July, that will make all your problems with that car go away.
