Need some service/money advice.. Rear main oil seal
Hi everyone.. I have a 2002 S80 2.9.. I paid about $8800 for it in EXCELLENT condition at 94,000 miles back in 2007..
It now has about 124,000 miles and is still in very good condition..
My question is this, its had the dreaded rear main (rear crankshaft) oil seal leaking for quite some time but it has become rather annoying now.. The problem is this, I will most likely be moving in about 5 months time and I will need to sell the car...
I am considering fixing the oil seal but its about $600 for the job (cheapest quote I have gotten so far).. When trying to sell the car, will having a non-leaking motor increase my potential value by anything close to the $600 I would have to put into it?
As we all know, money is tight right now for most people, but especially so when you are at university so this is a pretty big decision for me...
So... forget all maintenance concerns, is it worth it in a purely financial sense?

Well, i have been on the high mileage mobil1 for about 2 years now and while it helped to an extent the leak just keeps on getting worse..
Also, its pretty easy to tell about the leak.. No matter where I park it, it leaks and once you drive on the highway it tends to spray back all over the license plate, bumper, exhaust etc...
So, concealing it is not an option really, just more a matter of will it increase my car's value relative to the amount of money i have to put in to fix it...
