Rear Main Seal leak advice T5-R
Hello. I know, I'm a realy dummy. But I'm determined to do this job myself. I know just the tiniest bit about the mechanics of the 850's (I know the 240's are like a walk in the park to me comparatively speaking). But I'm bound and determined to do this repair myself. I have a certified mechanic (for what that's worth) and a redneck cousin who builds race cars out of escorts and merkurs and things. Can anybody point me to a comprehensive instruction set on how to complete this repair? Anybody with experience doing it themselves? Thanks in advance!!

The eBay listings don't call it Vadis due to the fact that they havecopied a copyrighted DVD - most of them call it a factory service manual and it lists a ton of years and models. I think it can also be had from bit torrent but that whole thing weirds me out.
A Haynes manual will help as well and be sure to snag the factory service manual and see the section on removing the transmission:

The seal is a snap toreplace - getting tothe seal is a bearcat.

RE: Rear Main Seal leak advice T5-R
Hi again, I have two T-5r'sne "nice" one which needs a few little "repairs". Well maybe not so little...First: the previous owner put some $1900.00 16 in. jap wheels (alloy, thank God) on the car when he refurbished it. He tried to stay in the same vein as the originals, bless his heart. It doesn't have mudflaps, I'm assuming because of the er..uh..profile of the tires. I would love to find 4 of the original 17 in. wheels, or at least some regular turbo wheels I could powder coat in anthracite gray and sell the ones on it. Second: It won't pass inspection because of an ABS light which was conveniently removed and discovered upon inspection. Is there a way to determine what the deal is with this without dragging a barrel of money into the dealership for an assessment? Finally, the exhaust is great, but the tailpipe cover is rusted through and looks awful. I'd like to find a nice chrome exhaust, something not too flashy and in keeping with the original pipe. Also, any thoughts on running a straight pipe and removing the muffler altogether? Any increase in HP? Any guidance would be great.

Oh yeah, I forgot about T-5R no. 2. It is an ugly duckling waiting for me to pick it up from out of state next week. It is a cali car, no rust and many performance enhancements, turbo tuned up over 300hp. I had it checked out and all seems well...all but a slight rear main seal leak of course (that's like mentioning how great your day was until you were struck by lightning). Other than that, it was in a front end collision in California. The rocker panels and hood are Green. The rest is yellow. Hence the ugly duckling reference. Question: I am planning to shape this car along it's original racing track (no pun intended). First of all, it's prepped for painting, and is missing all emblems. I need to find where I may procure those. Also, it has standard turbo wheels with the powdercoated anthracite-like gray color. Should I invest in new wheels? Finally, since I don't know all the racing upgrades it currently has (the driver says it makes him nervous), are there some performance recommendations/accessories anyone can give me that won't break my bank completely? The front seats are in bad shape, but all else in the interior works fine. I'm in discussion with someone currently concerning racing this vehicle, at least at the strip. Something I've always wanted to do. Again, any advice is so very appreciated...Thanks

1. Pull the ABS codes your self and clear them and see what comes back.
The ABS port is A3 follow link to learn how to pull the codes. http://www.troublecodes.net/Volvo/
I think a straight pipe will be to loud. I would run a magnaflow muffler on it.
For the other one wait till you get it so you can figure out what it has done already.
