Question Play in removable 2004 S80 hitch bolt

I have a 2004 S80 with a removable hitch bolt. If I attach e.g. a Thule bike rack to it I notice that the hitch bolt has some side to side play/movement in it if I move the bike rack back and forth while attached. Is this normal? It doesn’t seem to be in danger of falling of, but I haven’t experienced this with any other car.

Saw one of these on a friends hitch the other day - eliminated the play between the tongue and the receiver.

Never hauled bikes with an S80 but I did for 10 years with am Explorer and 12 or 13years with my Tahoe. The bolts were a bit loose from day one. Never got worse and never left a bike (or bikes) in the middle of the highway. I suspect that if they were really a precise fit they would be extremely frustrating to install.
Also used a little "Cargo Carrier" with that receiver on the Tahoe. This worried me at first as I had more weight and just used bungees to secure whatever was on it ( like the one below but homemade). Actually drug the back end a few times on mountain trails. Stayed secure.

Bottom line, I think you'll be OK.

.

BTW, They make a locking bolt that makes the rack more difficult to steal
