Power steering fluid leaking
Hi there,
I have power steering fluid leaking on my 2000 S80 T6 with 122000 km. I took it to the dealer and after inspection I was told that rack and pinion is leaking and has to be replaced?! How come it has to be replaced? Is it possible that gaskets can be replaced only because they told me it will cost around CDN $3000!!!
I know that dealers usualy replace major things instead of fixing them - can you please advise me what is my best option?
Should i maybe take it to a smaller shop? I can't beleive that r/p needs to be replaced at only 120k...
Thanks,
Mike

Not many Local places rebuild steering racks. Very limited places rebuild them.
Thats why they have to replace them.
Get an estimate from another place.

[8D] Hello, my fellow volvoians, I am a newcomer to this site. Just want to say, I have reviewed some of your comments about leaking power steering fluids. I myself have spent countless hours trying to find this mysterious leak. I change the fluid reservior and checked all lines to no avail. What I discovered was that the leak was coming from the rack & pinion system boots. I was losing fluid from both driver and passenger side and I found that each boot had several holes in it, which fluid was leaking leaving the underside of the vehicle wet. I would like to know if the boots can be purchased separately or do I have to go to the poor house by purchasing a rack & pinion.
Thanks
