I have a 2000 s80 2.9L and I was wondering what that empty slot is next to the radio/cd player? the one that slides open.

It is just a cubby for storage.

 

Good question, I always thought it was for cell phone, garage door opener, cigarettes, phaser, beef jerky, nips, pager, reefer, altoids, compact 9mm, flashlight, pepper spray, gum, small field nuclear device, spare key, pet lizard, top secret microfilm or what have you. I myself don't use it, thanks for reminding me though, Now I know where to stash my ........................

There was some option that was a carphone/bluetooth item that could go there or a flip out cupholder like in the center console,but otherwise, its just a cubby on almost all S80s. S60s have this same cubby (up until the interior redesign), but they don't have the sliding door for it, but a quite a few had had the cupholder installed.

 

it is an oddly placed/shaped storage but has proven somewhat useful..

 

It's perfect for a pack of cigarettes

 

I normally stuff a pack of gum and my house keys in there
The fully loaded s80's normally have the phone there, but i prefer my cubby anyway! Thats what celphones are for ...

 

Eye/sun glasses case.......

 

one more here for the pet lizard storage..

 

change and wallet - but its a little deep for some change and a small hand.

 

Just a slot that slides open... I keep a pen in it.
