Unhappy rain sensor not very sensitive ...

whenever i turn the sensor on, its not very sensitive. it was raining heavily and i also changed the speed settings. It had been for sometime now. I had to turn the lever into manual mode.
Also would it matter if the wipers are in bad condition that the sensor would not work??

The rain sensor on our S80 seems to be quirky as well. There are times when a light sprinkle will trigger it excessively, and other times when a downpour won't . I'm just activating manually, now.
