Default software updates??

Find the forum most helpful in a number of areas - have been seeing a lot of issues that result in "software updates" - do these computers need to be upgraded??

profcharlie - '00 S80 T6 - have had MB and BMW vehicles but the S80 is by far the nicest - a pleased S80 owner....

Are you talking like recalls that need to be done with software? Or are you talking ECU (ECU Performance Upgrades) for more power?

What I ended up doing for the software was just reloading the entire car while they were doing the recall software. Doing all the systems ran be about $40.00, but I figured it couldn't hurt. At the time I had also been having some issues with my dash that were fixed by the reload.

Volvo comes up with upgrades to the systems as little things come up over time.
If nothing has been done to the car in a while as far as software there might be some.
But they are not recalls it will cost money to have them done.
The ETM software is the only one under recall.

ETM = Electronic Throttle Module, only seen in 1999+ Volvos. This is also known as a Electronic Throttle Body.

Called Volvo dealership in Pgh, gave them the VIN

Called the Volvo dealership in Pgh (Rayhal Volvo), gave them the VIN#, they checked and a recall for the ETM software was indeed needed - had it completed and was under warranty....thanks for all the replies...
