steering noise
2000 S80 T6 75k. Creak or squawk, like screen door hinge noise, on slow turn or if body is tilted forward or back but brake not necessary to make the noise.
Dealer did both struts at 68k but not mounts.
Had mixed front tires, 3/32 & 10/32, from the dealer, have since replaced the thin one with new, Conti. Contact CH95 (match to other front).
Squawk started more or less at onset of colder weather.
I don't know if ball joint recall was done.
Thanks.

Tech was right; both strut mounts (spring seat/bearing) are broke it appears.
Other things may also be involved.
It's going in Monday, I have service plan to cover most of it.
Ball joint recall is also being looked at.
Thanks.

I took it in. They didn't agree with causes we surmised here but instead replaced the steering stop rollers (not covered on warranty).
They did find leaky turbo oil seals which they could bill for.
It appeared fixed for about a week, now a small vestige of the noise is coming back. We'll see how it goes.
I did get a new S60 for 3 days out of the deal, free.

Most of the time the replacements aren't rollers anymore. Look and see if it looks like a plastic block. If so and it looks dry try installing a little bit of grease on it and see if the noise goes away.
Try shooting a little lithium grease down the hole where the steering column goes into the firewall. You can remove the bushing to clean it if you like or just grease the sucker. It may fix your problem.
