Default Strut repalcement

Tech or anyone else who has already changed their struts. My question is , is there a such thing as a universal strut mount for a 99 volvo S80 2.9? by this I mean that you can install it in any position that there isn't a particular position it should be installed in. My experience with other cars has been you mark the strut mount so when you place the new one init matches the old. The mechanic's or clowns at a Monroe mechanic shop say theres no wrong way to install it & now that they put them on my car i hear a squeek like a childs squeeky toy each time i hit a small or large bump. I brought all new parts struts mounts & bearings are they lying about it being a universal fit ? Thanks I appreciate your help

I changed both on my 2000 t6. There's no way you could put them in wrong. You may have your wheel alignment off, if the strut wasn't put in EXACTLY the same position as the old one but it wouldn't squeak.

Did you change the upper spring seats? Maybe they're worn and squeaking?? I m going to guess that now that your struts are tightened up some other worn out part is showing it's face.

Take it back to them and ask them to diagnose the problem and get an estimate.

I brought all new parts & had them all changed. My bro says the strut looks like it's crooked so I'm gonna have someone else check it to be sure. It sucks to hear that sqeak but lets see what the other mechanic will say. Thanks for the info.

is it possible to for them to have put the strut mount the wrongwayinto the strut tower ?[sm=nothatway.gif]Im just puzzled because it's just such a strange sound just like a squeaky toy. Oh & sorry had a typo on this post i wrote "Strut repalcement" instead of Strut replacement just one of those things[sm=outcold.gif]

I don't want to say it's impossible to put it in wrong but I think you'd really have to try hard. I m pretty sure it only fits in one way. Even if the spring seat was in wrong or the plate was spun the strut still shouldn't look crooked I don't think. It has to bolt up to the spindle on the bottom and it has to be centered in the strut tower. There really is no other way. Its pretty basic really. But people seem to be screw up just about anything sometimes so I guess you never know.

Everything fits one way.
Maybe one of the lower control arm bushings are bad?

so Tech theres no way they could of screwed up the installation ? like not marking the strut when they took it out? so this way I can move on to the next step of having someone check the rest of the parts. Funny thing is it never made that noise before, It only does it over bumps small & big sounds just like when you squeeze a squeaky toy so mind boggling. I have never heard a car sound like a dogs chew toy lol. Im gonna have another mechanic take a look on saturday see what he thinks.

Maybe The people who did the install forgot to remove something....
....or just put something in there to screw with you.
Good Luck

Gonna have to wait till next weekend my buddy was overwhelmed with work so Im gonna have to get up super early. I think I will order all the suspension parts just to make sure that all is new & in good condition I drive to Mass,PA & Long Island in NYC and really dont want any breakdowns. Like I said before I like the feel of this car very nice ride, Another one of my friends says maybe the bushings need to settle in but I have never heard new struts & mounts make squeeking noises

Had my front suspension replaced as well (struts, bushings, sway bar). Now I hear squealing when I turn, clicking on rough roads). Mechanic sprayed lube on the bushings, which temporarily fixed the squeals.
