Default Timing Belt Trouble!!

Ok so I was workin with my 2000 S80 doing a timing belt replacement. I got the cam gears lined up and the crank gear lined up before I got the belt off. While I was working the crank gear spun and now I have no clue what to do! I know if I dont get the timing right my motor is screwed!! Please help with this issue! thanks!

How much did it spin and in what direction? If lined up, how far off is it?

To clarify, if lined up correctly for the timing marks, how far off that mark is it now?

not really sure how far it spun but we found a ridge on the front of the gear right behind the balancer. we have that lined up now. is that how its supposed to line up. the cam gears are still lined up

Here are some pics from my S60. Not sure they are the same.

The sprocket only fits the shaft one way. One master spline, many smaller splines.

Default Lined up no start

We have the marks lined up on both the crankshaft and the camshaft as stated and pictured ( http://volvospeed.com/Repair/s40_timing_belt.html ), but when we try to start the vehicle it will not start - just turns over. Any suggestions?

Default timing belt

Does either cam have variable valve timing?

You have to hold the cam and rotate the vvt before you put the belt on. If you don't the cam will be too far advanced.

I just realized you are working on a s80. I'm not sure it's built the same as the 2.3 in the s60. I want to say that the s40 vvt stays locked when you remove the timing belt.
