Default Trunk not releasing from remote

The remote does not release the trunk on our 2001 S80 T6. The key works fine but is in a painmful location. The doors open fine, issue is with the trunk release only. I hear no noise or any indication it is working when pressing the button. Is there a way to test the actuator to determine if that is the issue?
Thanks on advance

It will not open with the remote only or it will not open at all unless you use the key?
The trick with the remote to unlatch the trunk is to press the trunk release button on the remote twice quick.

It will only open with the key. The release above the tag no longer works either. They simply stopped working about a month ago.

There's a button on the dash (at least on my car) that locks out the trunk from opening. Make sure it's not pushed (could have been pushed when someone was cleaning the dash, etc.). IIRC it has a graphic on it that looks like the back part of the car with the trunk lid up.

Yes that would be the Valet lock out.

Yep, tried that with and without the red/orange lamp glowing on the button. I assume the Valet lock is on when the light is on.

The little window will tell you when it is on and off. But it will only show for a few seconds.

I tried both ways. It certainly sounds like the button is related however. Is there any way to detect if I am getting a signal (voltage) to the lock to determine if the failure is at the actuator?

You should be able to test for power between the handle and latch.
