Default Volvo fluids only?

The Volvo manual says only to use Volvo fluids (only exception is brakes). I find it hard to believe that Volvo makes their owen PS or ATF fluid. Does anyone know of any acceptable replacements (e.g., Prestone)?

Not knowing the year of your car I looked up the specs for the 2006 S80. As an example the brake fluid spec is JWS 3309. A search on Google brought up the following information:

Although not specific to the S80 it may answer your question. Further searches on the specs for other fluids should give the answers.

When I have any fluids changed (Transmission, brake, etc...) I always have the dealership do it for me. I know there are available substitues, although I don't know them off the top of my head.

Dot 4 -- It said it on the cap. That's what I just used when I replace the front brakes.
