Question What does this button do?

I recently got a 2002 Volvo S80 and am really loving it. Great car. Also I am new on this forum so I thought I would take advantage of it. Anyway, I noticed a button on the dash and checked the manual. Unfortunately, I couldn't seem to find anything about what it does. So, can someone here please tell me what its purpose is?

Looks like a gas pump to me. Meaning that it probably pops the gas lid on the side of the car so you can access the cap to fill your car.

I figured that too, but it does not do that. I also thought maybe it locked the lid, but nope not that either.

so then how have you put gas max... it doesnt pop the lid in the traditional sense, press it and then go and manually pull the lid...
its supposed to be like a lock release

When you press the button it unlocks the gas door. When you start driving, at about 5 MPH it will relock (you can hear it). Now it could be broken too and no longer locks.

Additionally if you press the button with the car stopped on the display on the dash a message should come up saying Fuel Door Hatch Unlocked or similar.
