Where to buy a rebuilt or GOOD used engine w/warranty?
Due to the local volvo dealership SCREWING me (read here) I am in need of an engine.
I'm currently suing the dealership, but will probably take years to get any $$$.
I've finally come up with enough money to get a motor but I'm just checking some resources from the forum members here to possibly find a better deal. 'Tis tight times these days, and my screen name says it all
So I have a "hookup" if you will at a local garage I used to do some mechanic work for when they got backed up. I have the skill necessary to do engine swaps, have done them many times in the past. However I no longer own ANY tools, and just don't have the time with work and personal life.
I can have the labor done for $600. I realize Mitchell Labor Guide estimates the time at 24 hours.
The local LKQ has a few used motors at the garage's cost instead of retail.
120K mile (My car currently has 131,000: 2000 2.9L S80) w/ 6 month warranty for $850.
$80K mile for $1200 w/ 6 month warranty.
Now I don't know what LKQ's warranty covers but it pretty much gurantees a "DOA" I suppose. Maybe crank case bearings, rings, etc. No cyl head protection.
Anywho I haven't been able to find much online.
In addition if it's not a rebuilt motor I will purchase and replace the water pump, timing belt & tensioner, head gasket, various seals in the head, take the oil pan off and make sure the pickup tube and such are clean and not gunked up... you get the idea. All the things that I can do to prevent failure while not spending a whole heck of a lot of money and I can do it myself at the garage in my spare time over a week or so.
Is this the best deal out there at the moment?
