Default 1997 S90 anti theft and a dead battery

My sons 1997 Volvo S90 has been parked due to a possible blown head gasket, I went out to start it and move it a few feet, (it ran when I parked it), but the battery seemed dead, I unlocked the door and the horn started blasting and the signal lights were flashing. I disconnected the battery and continued charging it, hooked it back up, same thing. I took out the battery and will finish charging it on the bench, it shows 12 volts on a multimeter.. How do I bypass what seems to be an anti theft system?? My son just has the key, the remote entry unit died along time ago. Any ideas?? The manual says the radio has an anti theft code, does that kill the start function too?? And where would I find that code??
Thanks in advance.

Well, I went back out and unlocked the car, opened up the fuse box and found and pulled a 10A fuse for the alarm, put the recharged battery back in and it fired right up.

So, did you reinstall the fuse and try it with the alarm system fuse installed?

I did what you said after I put the fuse in. Not sure why it worked before that, but you were right locking and unlocking the door, with the key, cleared it. Thanks again.

Cool. That alarm situation with dead batteries and replacing batteries throws people a lot.
