'98 v90 problems. Help!
Hey guys, I recently traded for a 98 v90 about three weeks ago, two days later, it broke down. It has been at the car lot where I traded for it since then. Their "mechanic" has been trying to figure out the issue and has came up with absolutely nothing. Here's the deal, I am totally in love with the car and would love to keep it, but I'm not in the greatest financial situation and can't afford to throw a lot of money into it. I was just hoping you guys could help out and at least give me somewhere to start from to try and fix it.
The issues before breaking down:
-It had a shudder in the transmission from about 55-65 mph. Would shake the whole car while driving.
-White smoke was pouring out of the oil dipstick. I've been told this was most likely a clogged PCV system by others.
What happened when it broke down:
I had driven the car about two and a half hours to work and it was running like a dream. No other issues whatsoever. It sat for about an hour until I went to the gas station maybe five minutes down the road, on the way back the engine died, I pulled over to the side of the road and it started it back up. It fired right up but sounded horrible, like a metal on metal sound in rhythm and when I pushed the accelerator it did absolutely nothing. I cut it off, started it backed again and the same thing. Cut it off again, waited a few minutes and when it started, white smoke came out of the exhaust and it died and it wouldn't start again. The mechanic has said the he has gotten it running several times over the past two weeks and it sounded fine but it would die again a few minutes later and wouldn't start. The car dealer offered to give me my money back today since he sold the truck I traded for. I'm really not sure what I should do, and would really appreciate any ideas! Thanks.

Honestly I would take the money and find another Volvo. White smoke is usually burning coolant. Metallic sounds, transmission issues, on top of a coolant leak on a car a mechanic can't keep running sounds like lots of money.
