Newbie: "Chips"; just bought v90 Cross Country
New v90 Cross Country coolant was tested to 24 below zero, but I need -50 due to taking car to upstate New York Adirondack Mountains. Bethlehem, PA dealer says adding more coolant might harm some mechanisms. What do you folks in Canada do to get the coolant to -50?
most cars recommend 50/50 anti freeze/water mix for best all around cooling. You can go with a slightly richer mix (say 60/40) to drop the freeze point to the -30 to -40F range. With that said, whats the chance you'd ever see -50F? Keep in mind, your car only knows absolute temperature not wind chill so even the chances of you seeing -28F in NY is pretty slim as that's approaching record cold for most towns (usually the -30F days happen in valleys with radiational cooling). What I'd do is call a Volvo dealer in upstate NY (say in Syracuse) to ask their service manager what they recommend.
Thanks! Will call a northern dealer. My weather station in Piseco, NY almost always shows the lowest temperature for each winter at -30 or colder. I grew up near here and remember a -40 day, but that was years ago.
