S90 power seat problems
I had to do this repair this week end and thought I would share my experiences. There are other temporary fixes that are simpler, like repositioning the flexible shafts, so try those first. What I did is pretty much the whole enchilada, as they say.
At this moment I just discovered the file attachment upload size limit on this forum is way too small for my PDF document, which has pictures of the repair process. Bummer. You can find it by searching the issue "960 Volvo seat problems" at www.volvo-forums.com.
Good luck!

I had a similar issue with the driver's seat.( Used more than the passenger side). Since the motors were working it was a flexible shaft that was the culprit. So I disengaged the positive end, carefully from the flexible shaft, cut off about 1/4 inch of just the flexible part of the plastic and reassembled the whole thing.DO NOT CUT THE DRIVE SHAFT, Use care in doing so you don't damage the plactic or shaft. The shaft, similar to the old square drive speedo cable now fit firmly into the drive and the seat operated as new. By doing this, you are actually repositioning the shaft. Maybe not by the book, but it saved me a bunch of money and time!
My 960 has a seat that does not track on one side. I assume this is the issue you are referring to. However, I do not understand what you mean by "disengaged the positive end, carefully from the flexible shaft, cut off about 1/4 inch..." What would that look like? What is going wrong with the part? Did you have to take the seat totally out of the car? I would like to fix my seat but I'm a little lost right now.

Yes, the seat has to be removed. But that is easy to do. Only four studs hold it to the rail. A good time to check for any loose change that may have fallen into the track. That could cause the problem. My passenger seat was "tracking" to one side, due to the fact that the flex shaft from the drive motor was not engaged fully. I was able to operate the seat by holding the flex shaft in position, which led me to believe (correctly) that the shaft wasn't fully seated into the motor. I first tried to use a plastic wire tie to "reposition" the flex shaft, but that idea failed. So I shortened the plastic housing around the flex shaft, reattached the metal end and it has been working for the last two years! In effect what you are doing (by shortening the plastic housing) is lengthening the flex shaft, so that it will fully engage in the drive motor. Like I said I live in a hot climate and plastic items do not live long, even in a garage! Good luck.
Adjusting drive cable works great! two things I learned, one-tracks must be in correct alignment before reconnecting cabel two-- my seat had to self locking studs thru floor, I had to jiggle seat around to get out!
