02 S40 Key Cutting and Sync in the Chicago Area (who does this) No dealers .;(
So.
I bought this car and both keys were broke where you put the key ring through. I figured no biggie I could get a replacement made. Wrong !
Went to the local dealer they quoted me somthing like $39 for the key $138 for labor and $50 for the software. I almost fell over and I believe that was for each key. Also I did not get a remote and that I think was $138 plus the same extras quoted.
So would anybody know of a shop the Chicago area that could cut /program key blanks? Of better yet get the blanks and remote else ware and have them do it?
Thanks

That's your only option, unless you find a shop with VIDA and a subscription that allows software downloads. And then if you do, guess who pays for that subscription to make it worth it. The labor of one hour is not per key though. And the software is also not per key.
Actually found a shop in the Chicago area and they were actually more expensive then Volvo. Fond a shop out of state that would supply , cut and install the software for around $200 but I would have to pull the immobilizer out of the car and send it to him.
These prices are a bit nuts I think....

These prices are almost more then what the car is worth.
My next idea is to get somthing like this , put a small slice in the bottom so the key shank would fit through and then zip it up. I just glue it to the leather cover w/ some barge cement.

There has to be a lot of folks in the same boat as myself and I'm suprised sombody has not mass produced a low teck fix for somthing as simple as the D ring piece breaking off your key.
If anybody has done this and could recommend a well built leather case to start with please pass it on. The case I have shown you noticed is not zippered all the way around so it would be easy to cut a small slit to pass the key through...

Hi,
I was wondering if you ever spoke w/ the guy as I'm still looking for a Key fob to get synced to the car. I did get a quote of $300 from a indy shop for the fob and sync. That is still a lot of dinero ;-)
