2001 V40 questions (window, keys, hatch)
My wife's friend parked her (sadly neglected) 2001 V40 at our house for the holidays and asked me to look it over. So far I've changed an O2 sensor and plugs to get the CEL off, and filled the brake fluid to get the brake light off. Now that the dash lights are off, I have some general questions:
1. The driver window does not go up or down. When I push the switch, I hear what sounds like the motor inside, but the window remains fully closed. If I push the switch in the down direction, the motor will whir until I push the switch in the up position. Is there a common/likely cause of for this?
2. The only key I have is an old-fashion key, with no remote or switches on it. Is this the valet key? I find it odd that there is no way to unlock anything but the driver door -- so maybe that's because I don't have the remote key? If so, is there a way to order a key based on VIN?
3. Said key doesn't open the rear hatch -- doesn't go all the way in. Is that normal or does it mean there's something wrong with the lock in the hatch?
4. The cup holder in the dash is broken. The arm just flops around -- seems like it's missing a spring or something. Is this a common failure and are replacements/fixes easy to come by?
5. Is there a DIY fix-it site for these cars and/or online exploded views of various assemblies? Looking for resources for studying up.
Thanks Volvo world!

Hi,
I'm not too sure whether this will help but here's the link for the Owner's Manual for the S40/V40 (2001)
2001 Volvo S40 & V 40
What colour is the key? If it's grey it's probably the valet key. My 1997 V40 used to have two keys which had a separate remote with two buttons on it. The two keys were black and so were the remotes, but it also came with two other remotes with a 'wooden' finish. Might be able to post some pics of it later.
I don't know anything else unfortunately, sorry.
