Default Help-'98 v70 rear hatch window shattered

My girlfriend closed the rear hatch (tailgate) of our "98 V70 while something wasn't quite in all the way and it shattered the tailgate window. Now what to do?

It looks like the hatch window, which is curved and formed, is held in place with doubled sided foam adhesive tape. I don't believe it would be easy or inexpensive to get and replace that window to our existing hatch. My thoughts are that it would be cheaper to go to a junk yard and see if we can find a whole replacement hatch and switch them out.

Any advise on this?

Also, assuming it would be easier and cheaper to just replace the whole hatch, if anyone has the links they could post here to aid in the switching of the tail gate that would be very helpful. I have a Chitlon and it has some instructions in there on it, but I'm sure there are some tricks to being able to do it in addition to what is on the book.

P.S. - Our hatch shocks are worn and we just haven't gotten some off Ebay yet. As soon as we can afford it we'll get some and switch those out. I know, I know, they are only about $45, but money is tight right now.

But our main concern is the replacement of the glass or hatch for weather and security reasons.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Bob

Did you call a local glass place? It might be cheaper to replace than you think. You can often get a new windshield installed for about $150 so I can't imagine that would be any more than a windshield. Some places might even offer used glass.

I doubt it would be cheaper. I found one other thread started by someone w/ the same problem as me. He started his thread just before I did.

You could have at least called to get a price by now, but suit yourself.
