V40 2.0 T4 1999 - Takes 5-10 seconds to start.
Hello guys,
bought this car few weeks ago, it runs nicely and is otherwise great, except the annoying starting issue.
When i start it on a cold engine, it takes 5 to 10 seconds of cranking before the engine starts. Battery and starter are fine and spin nicely.
When the car is warm, and i stop the engine for few minutes, it starts on first crank.
However if I leave it for 15-20 minutes, the slow starting usually happens again.
When i start it cold, it usually goes on 3 or even sometimes feels like on 2 cylinders for 10-15 seconds, and then normalizes and runs fine.
Shall i begin with changing the plugs or is it something else?

After some searching figured it could be the FPR, as it seems to be a common problem.
Could someone experienced please confirm this:
to test FPR I leave the car off for 30-60 minutes, then I pull off the intake connector from FPR and see if it leaks fuel. If it does - look for a new FPR.
Can someone who knows how it looks give a detailed advice please, so i don't pull something unnecessary off ; )
Or maybe some pictures?
thanks in advance guys

Most definitely your fuel regulator. I had same issue with 2000 V40. Found new regulator for around $80 US.
Installation time 10 minutes. Wear eye protection, you will have latent pressure that may spray a bit of fuel when you pull the line from old reg

Replaced the FPR yesterday and it helped
the car now starts at the first crank and doesnt misfire anymore.
this guide helped a lot, and is right on the spot, with perhaps a couple tiny things that didnt match but thanks to the guy who made it ; )
