My power steering has just failed, there has been a grinding noise from the altinator side of the engine then a snap noise then the grinding noise stopped but the power steering does not work. any ideas, is it going to be expensive?

any help would be greatfuly recieved.

 

Did the accessory belt break?

 

Not sure, definatly a snapping noise like a belt going.

 

Sounds like something might be locking up.

 

like the pump Siezing? could it be the steering rack?

 

air conditioning compressor siezed, which snapped the fan belt, is it possible to bypass the air conditioning unit on the Volvo v40 (2001)

 

It might be but you will have to try many different belt sizes and routing to see if it can be done.
