Default Volvo V40 - 98, leaking brake fluid.

Please can anybody with knowledge on Volvo braking systems assist/comment/enlighten me - I have a big problem!!!

I was just on a road trip from Switzerland to Italy and drove for about 4 hours before I arrived at the hotel, gave the bellboy the keys to my car to park it and then went up to my room. The next evening when the car was returned to us the brake pedal was totally soft and without pressure and the brake-fluid-level indicator lamp was on.

When checking under the car I saw a leakage just inside the right rear tyre.

I believe that somehow the valet MAY have hit a bump or something to cause this leakage - is this possible? It seems strange to have driven all that way with no apparent problems, and then to park up for 24 hours and receive the car back with such a drastic problem.

We went to the hotel parking garage and found a big wet patch where my car had been parked overnight.

I´ve just received a paper from the mechanics saying it will cost me about 950 Euros(!!) to fix the car!

Its all in Italian but I´ve managed to understand some of it by searching the Volvo part numbers and also through google translate.

It sounds to me that they are gonna give me a totally new brake system instead of just changing the tube or cylinder that was leaking! The car is more than 10 years old and the bill I´ve received is practically half of what I paid for the car, and it is currently still in the possession of the Italian mechanics.

Here´s an attachment of the list that the mechanics told me they ordered:

I can't see more than 1 caliper and 1 hose and fluid necessary to repair that if it's only one side. Have them point it out to you.

thats kind of what i was thinking, but im not very good with car-repairs...

It feels like they are trying to make an extra buck by ordering all new parts for half the brake system.

Thanks for your advice!

If the car is on a lift, the damage should be obvious to anyone. They should only repair what is damaged. The pricing could kill you. There's no need to replace the master cylinder or the other caliper when only a hose is broken.
