Default Rear Tires Scalloped...Shot

'08 V50 2.4I 16K on a set of Yokohama Avid Envigor! Rear tires worn smooth, scalloped on inside edge. Had 4 wheel alignment done when installed. Any insight on what caused this rear wheel wear problem>

16k miles or 25,600kms is not fantastic performance from a set of rear tires but can be down to style of driving. i.e. speed etc, maintaining correct inflation, heavy loads carried, type of roads and surfaces regularly travelled on.

Hear you on the driving style. I do drive with spirit. 15 to 20 minute daily commute at 70 to 75 mph on the interstate. Last 2 months I've spent 3 to 4 hrs at speed 1 day/week. Inflation check at least twice a month. Made two trips on these tires on what may be called a load...mostly running empty with myself as lone occupant. My concern is what's gong on with the rear suspension. Why this unusual wear on the inside edge?

Do you have the alignment printout? Probably need upper control arms on the rear to correct the camber.

What was camber measurement? These cars tend to have a lot of rear camber which can chew tires. I know Volvo backed off (as did other mfgs) on tire rotation but it does help prevent chewing up tires.

Tire balance is also important for tire longevity.

OK so here's the deal...don't have the numbers in front of me but it turns out the tire dealer's alignment machine was way out of whack compared to my local Volvo dealer's. Dealer also replaced the right side upper control arm. Lessons learned: 1. Always ask for last calibration data before having an alignment done. 2. Always rotate tires on some regular interval. Timing suggestions?

By the way, replaced Yokahamas with Cooper Zeon RS-3A's. Yeow! What a difference. Riding on rails. Cornering at speed is just freak'n awesome! Haven't had much rain yet so I can't really comment on wet handling. No snow yet either so I guess the jury's still out on that one. Stay tuned.
