Default V50 Oil Change Questions

Hi All, Volvo newbie here. 2 simple questions for the group:

1) What is appropriate mileage for oil change? The dealer told me 7500 but I'm skeptical.
2) Do I need to go to the dealer for this or can any quickie-lube place do it?

Not a car guy here so simple decisions like this cause anxiety! Thanks!

1) It really depends. 7500 is on the high side for regular oil but just about right if you are using synthetic. I would recommend 5000 miles and synthetic oil just to be safe.

2) I doubt the quickly lube place could carry the filter required. On the other hand, it is not that hard to change the oil yourself. You need a 36mm socket to loosen the filter cap. I also remove the air filter duct before removing the filter so it is less of a mess when pulling out the filter.

Default Question Followup

All, just a followup to my initial question..

I took Patrick's advice and will go every 5K miles. I did contact the Volvo dealer and they said synthetic was not necessary but can't hurt. Apparently this is a difference between Volvo vs. Audi/BMW - they require synthetic.

Last - I went to a quickie place (Valvoline) and they did have my filter. $5.99 seemed reasonable to me!
