Default Vibration in 5th, stutter intermittently

Hello - our 2005 T5 AWD V50 has a vibration like running over road strips when hitting ~55-60 km/h in 5th gear (automatic) when low rpms (about 1500-1800) and a small amount of pressure on the accelerator. If I give it more gas, it goes away. If I coast down a hill in 5th gear and go over this speed, there is no sound / vibration. I might notice this in 4th, sometimes. I don't feel this any other time, other gears, same RPM. I read about shaking caused by CV joints, however this seems more of a transmission issue?

Additionally, very occasionally after driving for some time, then coming to a stop for a bit, there's a stutter of acceleration for 1-2 seconds in 1st gear, almost like an almost-stall in a manual car. I don't want to surmise what the issues are, but will leave that to my expert forum members!

Thanks

I have exactly the same prob on a 2007 xc90. Tried replacing the auto transmission fluid and it becomes batter, it's still there but the vibration becomes softer though.

Did U managed to find any other solution?

Hi Derek - no resolution to the issue yet. It happens the worst in 4th gear, so I've taken to driving in 'manual mode'. I've taken the car to two shops, neither could replicate the issue. Whenever I find the time I will take it in again and drive them around to show them and at the very least get the transmission fluid flushed. Coming on 120km so it likely needs it anyway.

my AWD v50 started doing that a couple weeks ago... it progressively got way worse... turns out it was the carrier bearings in the drive shaft, they replaced with a used one... it worked for about a week, then same problem... put a brand new one in, the problem hasn't been back since.

Default Shaking

Hi RedX - Thanks for your reply to this post. I'm in London now but Ida is sitting and calmly awaiting our return. I'm sure the issue will still be there when we get back. Can you let me know what this ended up costing (the new) for parts and labour? Before putting in storage I had the oil and trans fluid changed and this didn't help.

Hi DubArchitect,

It turns out to be a mechanical gearbox issue for my XC90. Had a complete gearbox overhaul and change the valve body. Damage is SGD$8000.

Wow -- that's a hefty bill! I hope yours was under warranty or that's a tough pill to swallow. When we return from the UK I'll see about getting her back into the shop to see if they can diagnose. It's a ghost that never rears its head when the mechanic is in the car, of course.
